How Andersonbain Can Help You
This process can be challenging and lengthy, with extensive and rigorous background checks being carried out to ensure that you and your family can provide a stable, secure and happy home for your child. From a legal perspective, adoption severs the legal relationship between the child and their biological parents and creates a new one between the child and their adoptive parents in its place. As such, it is essential that every step of the adoption process is carried out with care to ensure that the best interests of the child are protected at all times.
Our specialist adoption lawyers can provide clear, practical advice and skilled representation to help you negotiate each stage of the adoption process. We aim to provide practical assistance and reduce the uncertainty and stress that can accompany an application for adoption. Whatever your requirements, speak to one of our friendly and approachable solicitors today to find out how we can help. Do I Need to be Married to Adopt?
The law does not treat married and unmarried couples differently when it comes to adoption – every couple will be treated equally when consideration is given to whether they can provide a child with a loving home. Most important will be the availability of evidence that an enduring family relationship exists and that the adoptive child will be offered long-term stability in their new home.
You do not have to be in a relationship to adopt a child. The Court will consider applications by single people. If this is something you are considering call us on 01224 456 789 (Aberdeen), 0131 228 2000 (Edinburgh), or fill out our online enquiry form.
Are There any Age Restrictions for Adoptive Parents?
There isn’t an upper age limit for prospective adoptive parents, but those looking to adopt must be at least 21 years of age. Where one of the parties is the child's biological parent, and the other partner is hoping to adopt the biological parent must be at least 18 years old, and the adoptive parent must be at least 21 years old.
If I Have Other Biological Children will this be Considered as Part of my Application?
No distinction is made between adoptive parents who already have children and those who don’t. The focus is always on offering adoptive children a loving and stable family, although the presence of other children may be seen as a positive factor in helping the adoptive child settle in their new home.
